Gütersloh / New Delhi / Mumbai, August 20, 2026 – Bertelsmann Investments (BI) celebrates a major milestone for its portfolio as Indian e-commerce enablement platform Shiprocket successfully completes its initial public offering and lists on the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE. The around US$ 170 million IPO values Shiprocket at US$ 1.1 billion at the end of its first trading day and marks an important milestone in the long-standing partnership between Shiprocket and Bertelsmann India Investments (BII), the Indian investment arm of Bertelsmann Investments. Ahead of the listing, the IPO attracted exceptional investor demand and was approximately 100 times oversubscribed.

BII first invested in Shiprocket back in 2015 as the firm’s first institutional venture investor. At the time, Shiprocket served around 1,500 customers and generated revenues of less than US$2 million. Since then, BII has supported the founding team around CEO Saahil Goel through several pivots in the company’s development. Today, Shiprocket is India’s largest e-commerce enablement platform, serving more than 214,000 active merchants and generating more than US$200 million in revenues this year. Its AI-powered platform brings together shipping, fulfilment, checkout and cross-border commerce for merchants across India.

Carsten Coesfeld, CEO of Bertelsmann Investments, said: “Shiprocket is a powerful example of our long-term approach to investing in exceptional founders and businesses in India. We backed the founding team at the earliest stage of the company’s journey and have seen them continuously pivot, innovate and scale Shiprocket into a leading technology platform. Its IPO is a defining milestone for the company, but also for our partnership. We remain convinced of Shiprocket’s long-term potential and look forward to continuing this journey as a shareholder.”

Following the IPO, BII remains Shiprocket’s largest venture investor and will hold approximately 19% of the company. On its first day of trading, Shiprocket’s shares closed 48% above the issue price. The company has been backed by long-term venture investors including Tribe Capital, March Capital and KDT Ventures, the venture arm of Koch Inc., while the IPO attracted additional high-quality public-market investors including SBI Mutual Fund, HDFC Mutual Fund and Goldman Sachs.

Deniz Pielsticker, CFO of Bertelsmann Investments, said: “Shiprocket’s IPO demonstrates the value that can be created through patient capital and long-term partnership. The company has come a remarkable way since our initial investment in 2015. For Bertelsmann Investments, Shiprocket is a compelling example of how our venture activities can create significant financial value while providing exposure to some of the world’s most dynamic growth markets.”

Shiprocket has developed from a shipping solution for small and medium-sized merchants into an integrated technology platform covering key parts of the e-commerce value chain. The company’s offering today combines shipping, fulfilment, checkout and cross-border commerce in one AI-powered ecosystem, enabling merchants to manage and grow their businesses.

Pankaj Makkar, Managing Partner of Bertelsmann India Investments, said: “When we first invested in Shiprocket in 2015, the company had around 1,500 customers and revenues of less than US$2 million. What convinced us then was the ambition of Saahil and the founding team and their ability to identify and solve fundamental challenges for India’s rapidly evolving e-commerce ecosystem. Over the years, the team has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to pivot, execute and build at scale. Today’s listing is an extraordinary milestone, and we are proud to have accompanied Shiprocket on this journey. We continue to believe strongly in the team and in the opportunity ahead.”

The IPO also reflects Bertelsmann Investments’ broader commitment to India as one of its most important growth markets. As part of its Boost strategy, Bertelsmann committed to investing more than US$100 million annually through BII, with 2025 marking a record year. In 2026, BII has already completed eight investments, seven of which were follow-on investments, including in Rozana, Snabbit and Handpickd.
